First Landing State Park is situated by Chesapeake Bay which is Virginia’s most famous state park, and is located in Virginia Beach. This park was built during the 1930s by civilian conservation corps. The park was first named seashore state park but was renamed in 1997 as First Landing State Park as this was a heritage site where the member of Virginia Company landed and they then went on from here to settle down in Jamestown.
Here you can go hiking with your dog and even ride your bicycle while your dog runs by your side. There are even self-guided trails to take your dog to, about 9 trails totalling upto 20 miles, which includes the bicycle and fitness route.
The popular one among the trails is the first part of the Bald Cypress trail, which is a mile long passing ponds and dunes and is even made accessible to the handicapped. These sights and sounds along the trails and worth every bit of effort. It is one thing to be one with nature and totally another thing to have your pet walk by your side while you experience this.
If you would like to get the brochoure of self-guided tours then you will get it at the trail center. Interpreters conduct the trail walk here at First Landing all through the year. It is important to mention that bicycle are allowed only on the Cape Henry trail, for the terain here is only what is suited for bicycle riding. You may rent the bicycle from the Park Bay store.
Therefore, if an adventure is what you are looking for with your dog then the First Landing State Park is an ideal choice. Remember that here too it may be required of you to clean up after your pet poops. |
