Have you seen the movie “White fang”? The story is about a wolf that gets friendly with a man after he is rescued from a series of dog fights. The fangs of dog help them puncture into meat and even tear at it. Fangs are very important to dogs, as they serve in a manner of defense, when they bite.
There are about 2700 dogs serving in the US armed forces. These dogs have such capability of smell, hearing and eyesight that they cannot be replaced by either man or machine. Most of the dogs used by the police and armed forces go through rigorous training, where they are even trained on how and where to bite.
In these bites, the dogs sometimes lose their teeth and so in order to allow the dog to continue its service, they are then fixed with titanium teeth whose cost run anywhere up to $2000 a piece. A bite from a dog with these titanium fangs is like being stabbed four times all at once but the disadvantage is that as they are artificially fitted, they are not as firm as normal teeth and may turn loose in a bite.
Along with the titanium fangs, dogs also gets an armor, which saves vital part from stabbing and projectiles, an infrared camera which allows the handler to see exactly what the dog is looking at and ear buds , so that the handler can watch and give directions. The dogs who serve in these areas are kept mostly in secret and are even used to sniff drugs, detect bombs and some can even detect the enemy as far as up to two miles.
Well cutting edge technology is certainly not for home pooches but who knows? As there are so many things that were meant for the military that have now come into civilian life, like the internet, these monsters could the next one! |
